Global Blockchain Congress in Kolkata on Dec 18 and 19

Kolkata will host the Global Blockchain Congress on December 18 and 19 at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, to be organised by the State Information Technology and Electronics (IT&E) Department. Experts from across the world will speak at the event.
The aim of the event is to build a holistic ecosystem on blockchain technology in Bengal through knowledge sharing, workshops, awareness generation and providing a single platform for all stakeholders – industry, academia, startups, corporations, governments and investors – to understand, collaborate and explore the potential of blockchain technology.
Blockchain is considered by experts as the biggest disruptive technology after internet. Among the financial institutions, almost 50 per cent of banks are expected to use this technology by 2020 and there is a huge transformation expected to take place in the non-financial sector as well.
As a result, blockchain technology is expected to create a significant impact in the job market.
The State Government is endeavouring to make Bengal a centre for emerging technologies like blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), embedded technology, cyber security, etc.
Towards this end, the government has been hosting regular knowledge workshops, and hosting the Blockchain Congress is a part of that effort.
