Eco Park, Alipore Zoo seeing much higher footfalls
Eco Park and Alipore Zoo, among the jewels in the crown considering Kolkata’s tourist attractions, are seeing much higher footfalls as winter is settling in.
Children and their parents form the bulk of visitors to these hotspots nowadays. On holidays and weekends, the numbers multiply several times.
It was Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who had conceived of a nature reserve near Kolkata, so that people do not always have to go to far-off places. It was also she who had named Eco Park as ‘Prakriti Tirtha, or ‘pilgrimage to nature’.
Over the years, her idea has borne rich fruits as the place has become a favourite of tourists from far and wide. The park is constantly adding new elements too.
Among the top draws are replicas of the Seven Wonders of the World, toy train, boating and water sports. Visitors also enjoy cycling in the special area, especially tandem cycling and the delicious food at Café Ekante.
