CM announces return of land at Rajarhat

Kolkata, June 25: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the return of 1587 acre of land at Rajarhat to the unwilling farmers. Besides the return of land, her Government has decided to cancel all notifications issued for the acquisition of this land. The CM also declared that the controversial quota of HIDCO (Housing Development Corporation) chairman will also be abolished.

These decisions were taken by the CM during her meeting with HIDCO at the Writers Building on Friday. State Housing Minister Shyamapada Mukherjee, State Law Minister Malay Ghatak along with the Chairman of HIDCO was present at the meeting. The move is seen as a continuation of the government’s bid to scrap all efforts of ‘forcible land acquisition’.

‘Today is a happy day for me. Farmers from Rajarhat, who have been living in fear and finding it hard to cultivate their own land, will not have to fear acquisition any more. I promised unwilling farmers of Singur that I would return their land. I am doing the same for the farmers of Rajarhat,’ the Chief Minister said.
