Chief Minister requests experts to take charge of cultural committees

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday evening visited Nandan and the Rabindra Sadan Cultural Complex. Luminaries from the field of art and literature such as Mahasveta Devi, Joy Goswami and other intellectuals have been requested to head various cultural institutions such as the Bangla Academy and Nazrul Academy respectively.       

Entering Nandan, West Bengal Film Center, at 8 pm, Ms Banerjee took stock of the existing infrastructure of the centre. The Chief Minister went into a meeting with the Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary on upgrading the infrastructure in the complex. This was her first visit to Nandan as Chief Minister.

She inquired about various ongoing projects at Nandan and also wanted to know about the budget for the Kolkata Film Festival.

 

Ms. Banerjee also discussed beautification of the entire complex, saying she wants citizens to enjoy their time at the seat of culture. She also went to Kolkata Information Centre, which is housed next door.

 

The government has requested experts in different cultural spheres to head different cultural committees as below.

 

Bangla Akademi to be headed by Mahasweta Devi (author and social activist).

Rabindra Sadan to be headed by Sumitra Sen (Rabindrasangeet singer).

Nandan, West Bengal Film Center to be headed by Sandip Ray (film-maker).

Other members of the Nandan Board invited are Aparna Sen, Ranjit Mallick, Prosenjit and Prabhat Roy. Special invitees for Nandan are Mrinal Sen, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Tarun Majumdar, Soumitra Chatterjee

Kolkata Film Festival to be headed by Ranjit Mallick (actor).

Rabindra Rachanabali Publication Committee to be headed by Nirendranath Chakraborty (poet).

Nazrul Academy to be headed by Joy Goswami (poet) as the Chairman and Anup Ghosal (singer and Uttarpara MLA) the Vice-Chairman.

Tagore`s 150-Year Celebrations to be headed by Saoli Mitra (theatre director).

Rajya Sangeet Academy is to be headed by Sandhya Mukherjee (singer).
