Be positive, be effective, maintain communal peace and harmony – Mamata Banerjee in South 24 Parganas

The West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee held an administrative meeting with all departmental ministers, district officials and police officers at Pailan; later she addressed a gathering at Sarisha in South 24 Parganas.

Excerpts from the Chief Minister`s speech:

“After the win in the panchayat elections the Maa, Mati, Manush Government has started the initiative to make district visits to take stock of the ongoing developmental project. We are bringing the `Mahakaran` to the districts. Even if you cannot reach us, we will reach you. This is a small but very important initiative to make the common people aware of the various schemes the government is launching for their benefit and betterment. I will visit 9 districts before Durga Puja and the rest will be completed after the Pujas.

We inaugurated Hilsa Research Centre at Diamond Harbour today. State Government is encouraging pisciculture through ` Jal Dharo Jal Bharo ` project. Bengal will soon be self sufficient in the fish production. The fishermen will be given identity cards so that in case of any mishap there is no confusion with their identity with Bangladeshi fishermen or as a matter of fact any other country or state`s fishermen.

313 new bus routes have been finalized. In future district head quarters will directly be connected to Kolkata to make communication and coordination smooth for speedy development. Jetty and launch services are being modernized. This will help tourism flourish.

Onion, betel leaf and chilly farming are being given importance. Modern cold storage will be created to store excess farm produce and save them from rotting. It will also help to meet the demand during times of low productivity. All this needs to be planned in advance which the previous government failed to do.

Kanyashree will be implemented from October 1st this year. 10,000 girls who are 18 years and above and still continue education will receive Rs. 25,000 each. 13 -17 years old girls will get Rs 500 scholarship each who are enrolled in any educational institution of course. We have created employment banks and 1 lakh unemployed youth will be given Rs. 1500. This will start from October 3rd. Everyone must enroll to get jobs. 1 crore youth will be recruited in the MSME sector.

All Women`s University is being established in Diamond Harbour. The academic sessions will begin from next year. We have planned 4 new universities in the state in 2 years whereas the previous government has only managed 1 in 34 years.

Our fair price medicine shop models are being replicated all over the country. We have introduced the concept so that the poor people can avail medical services at lower costs. 5 multi-super hospitals have been started in the district.

I would like to make an appeal to all of you to be positive, be effective and be cool. Do not indulge in anti-social activities. Maintain communal peace and harmony. Celebrate all festivals will equal zeal and vigour. “
