Bangla’s gram panchayats win national awards

Bangla’s panchayati raj system has been selected among the best in the country. Four gram panchayats, two panchayat samitis and one zilla parishad have been rewarded. The appraisal year was FY 2017-18.
Among the four gram panchayats, three have been awarded the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP) while the other one has got the Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar (NDRGGSP). The two panchayat samitis and zilla parishad have been awarded the DDUPSP.
Sreerampur gram panchayat (Puyrbasthali-I block, Purba Bardhaman district) has been awarded under the category of ‘Sanitation’ while Ilambazar gram panchayat (Ilambazar block, Birbhum district) has been awarded under the category of ‘Revenue Generation’.
The gram panchayat of Bankadaha (Bishnupur block, Bankura district) has been awarded the DDUPSP in the ‘General’ category.
Among the panchayat samitis, Jaypur in Bankura district and Rajganj in Jalpaiguri district have been awarded while at the district level, Birbhum zilla parishad was awarded.
The Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar (NDRGGSP) was awarded to the Sarboth gram panchayat in Garbeta-II block, Paschim Medinipur for outstanding performance through effective gram sabha meetings, especially with respect to improvements in the social and economic structure of the villages under it.
