Bangla Govt to upgrade IISWBM to a university

The country’s as well as South-East Asia’s oldest business institute, the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM) will get the status of a university soon, said the State Education Minister on Monday, December 10. The IISWBM is one of the best management schools in India.
He said this after attending a meeting of IISWBM’s board of directors, of which he is the president. The institute is currently under the University of Calcutta, which is also a State university.
A senior official of the State Higher Education Department said the parameters like teacher transfer, student-teacher ratio and other modalities will be finalised soon.
Besides its stature befitting its conversion into a university, becoming so would enable several management schools and institutes scattered all over the State to come under our aegis and thus benefit from its expertise.
The institute has seen a phenomenal placement in recent times. As per statistics, in 2015-16 the placement was 96 per cent, while in 2016-17, it was 98 per cent. This is a huge achievement for a State Government institute.
It may be mentioned in this context that the State Government has allocated 3 acres to IISWBM for setting up its second campus at Rajarhat, the work for which has already started.
