Bangla Govt to bring back ‘pass-fail’ system for classes V & VIII

The Bangla Government recently announced its decision to abolish the ‘no-detention’ policy and bring back the ‘pass-fail’ system in classes five and eight. The ‘no-detention’ policy was introduced by the Centre in 2010.
The Education Minister, Partha Chatterjee, announced on October 24 that the official notification on the revocation of the policy will be brought out soon.
It may be mentioned that the government had made it clear over a year ago that it was in favour of bringing back the pass-fail system in State schools. A five-member committee was formed for framing the modalities in bringing back the detention system. The matter was discussed extensively with educationists as well.
