Bangla Govt focussed on increasing milk production

The Bangla Government has taken several steps in recent months to improve the production of milk in the State.

Things are already looking up, according to data with the Animal Husbandry Department. The annual production of milk has increased from 88 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) in financial year (FY) 2010-11 to 56 LMT in FY 2018-19.

In the State’s scheme of things, Purba Bardhaman has a big contribution, in that it has 83 milk cooperative societies. To improve things further in the district, several steps have been taken, among which are the following:

80 unemployed youths have been given employment, their task being to go from house to house to collect milk
Their daily target for milk collection has been decided at 1,000 litres
Each of them would earn a commission of 25 paise per litre; therefore, their salary would be a minimum of Rs 7,000 per month
