Bangla CM lays the foundation of Greenfield University in Mungpoo
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is currently visiting the Hills. She reached Darjeeling yesterday.
The CM laid the foundation stone of the new Greenfield University at Mungpoo.
She also held a high level review meeting with Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) officials. Tourism will be getting a major facelift in the Hills and new tourism projects will be discussed in the review meeting.
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of Greenfield University on September 5 at a government programme at Darjeeling Chowrasta. As per the GTA agreement, the Centre was supposed to set up a Central University in the Hills. However, no such initiative has been taken so far. So, the CM has taken it upon herself to gift a new university to the Hills.
It may be mentioned, in Kurseong, Dow Hill is being developed as an Education Hub. The Himalayan Centre of Presidency University is also being established at the same place. The new university in Mungpoo will boost the education sector in the Hills.
