Kolkata, June 6: Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen has agreed to advise the chairman of the advisory committee set up by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to revive the Presidency University to its pristine glory.
This was stated by Sugata Bose after Ms. Banerjee named the Gardiner Professor of History at Harvard University as the head of the advisory committee to mentor Presidency University.
"Amartya Sen has agreed to advise the chairman of the seven-member advisory committee," Bose told from London. The names of other members of the committee are being worked out and are likely to be announced after Bose meets the Chief Minister in Kolkata in the later half of June.
Thursday last, Ms. Mamata Banerjee called Bose to say that she wanted to set up a mentor's group for the Presidency University and asked him to head the group. She also asked him seek Amartya Sen`s advice.
