West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee provided a touch of Bengal to the Vatican before the canonization ceremony of Mother Teresa. While leading the delegation from Bengal from Rome to Vatican, the Chief Minister and the delegation sang songs of Rabindranath Tagore. The aptly chosen song ‘আগুনের পরশমণি ছোঁয়াও প্রাণে’ was on their lips as the delegation paid tribute to the Mother.

The West Bengal Chief Minister is in Vatican on an invitation extended to her by the Missionaries of Charity. On their walk to Vatican the delegation including MPs Sudip Bandopadhyay and Derek O’Brien as well as journalists from Bengal were seen singing Tagore songs which also included “প্রাণ ভরিয়ে, তৃষা হরিয়ে”.

The Bengal delegation led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee witnessed the grand occasion of the canonization of Mother Teresa, where she was declared ‘Saint Teresa of Calcutta’ by His Holiness Pope Francis.

তিনি মাদার টেরিজার শহর কলকাতা থেকে এসেছেন- এ কথা জানিয়ে দিতে মরিয়া ছিলেন৷ আর তাই বাংলার নিজস্ব সম্পদ তুলে ধরেই যেন আলাদা করে দিলেন নিজের উপস্থিতি৷ ভ্যাটিকানে কবিগুরুকে স্মরণ করে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী ও বাংলার প্রতিনিধিরা গাইলেন-‘আগুনের পরশমণি ছোঁয়াও প্রাণে’৷

মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর চেষ্টা ছিল, তিনি যে মাদারের শহর কলকাতা থেকে এসেছেন তা আলাদা করে তুলে ধরা৷ সেই জন্য বাংলার প্রতিনিধিদের জন্য আলাদা ব্যাজেরও ব্যবস্থা করেছেন তিনি৷ রোম থেকে হেঁটে ভ্যাটিকানের পথে তাঁর গলায় তাই উঠে এল বাংলার নিজস্ব সম্পদ-কবিগুরুর গান৷ গলা মেলালেন সুদীপ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়, ডেরেক ও ব্রায়ান-সহ বাংলার সাংবাদিকরাও৷ আগুনের পরশমণি থেকে প্রাণ ভরিয়ে, তৃষা হরিয়ে-র সুরে ভাসল ভ্যাটিকানও৷
