After her mega rally in Lucknow yesterday, Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee addressed another rally today, this time at the Gardani Bagh ground in Patna. It was a protest against the Central Government’s decision to ban Rs 1000 and Rs 500 currency notes on November 8 and was attended by RJD leaders also.

She had arrived at the Bihar capital yesterday evening.

Mamata Banerjee began by recounting the immense hardships that people have been enduring since the decision on banning of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 currency notes was taken three weeks back, “After 60 years of independence, people’s independence has been taken away by force”.

She compared the current situation to that during the period of national Emergency in the 1970s: “The current situation is worse than Emergency, this is a financial emergency”.

She attacked the Central Government for ignoring the misery of the common people, saying, “It is the responsibility of the Government to work for the welfare of the people, not cause them suffering”, and reminding the Government that the “people will give them a befitting reply through ballot”.

She criticised the Centre’s propaganda on being able to flag black money hoarders through demonetisation, as the scheme was instead causing maximum problems for those who had nothing to do with black money: “Does the Government think that workers, labourers and housewives have black money?”

She instead demanded that the authorities target those members of political parties who deal in black money and use it for illegal transactions: “They should look at past records. They bought lands in the name of the party in September. They had advance information. Even on the day of the announcement of demonetisation they deposited huge amounts of money in their bank accounts”.

Mamata Banerjee attacked the Prime Minister on the issue of black money. She said, “Modi Ji goes on world tours. Look at his clothes and his lifestyle. He even brings crowds from outside. How much black money has been brought back from foreign countries?” Instead, he is pointing fingers at others, “He is accusing 86% of the people in India of possessing black money”.

The Trinamool Chairperson reminded the crowd of the Prime Minister and BJP leader’s failed promise: “The Prime Minister had promised to return Rs 15 lakh to everyone. Where is the money?”

Mamata Banerjee spelt out some of the problems that the people in general were facing: “It is the time for paying salaries but banks are running out of cash. How will things run? Lots of people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh work in Bengal. They have all lost their livelihoods and are returning home”.

She pointed out the practical issues of having Rs 2,000 notes: “How will people do their daily shopping if banks give only Rs 2000 notes? Note printing presses do not have the capacity to print notes for normalising supply. It will take almost two years for it to happen”.

She extended her thanks to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for supporting the cause and inviting her to Patna: “I am grateful to RJD for extending their support to us”. She raised the slogan, “Ek taraf janta, ek taraf Modi/ Main janta ke saath rahungi” (On one side is the people, on the other, Modi/ I will be with the people”.

Mamata Banerjee attacked the Prime Minister’s lecturing people to go for plastic money (credit and debit cards) and online payments, as very few have access to those, and also cast her doubts as to his real intentions behind it: “The Pradhan Mantri is lecturing farmers to use Paytm. I want to ask him who is Alibaba? What is the deal with a mobile company and Paytm, Modi Ji?”

She also attacked the Government’s logic of asking people all over the country to withdraw money from banks and ATMs, saying, “Several villages in the country do not have banks. How will people survive there?

She also criticized the Centre’s asking people to get new currency notes from Big Bazaar outlets: “How many areas have Big Bazaar? How will areas without Big Bazaar outlets get cash?”

Another aspect Mamata Banerjee criticised is that of the Prime Minister himself announcing the policy: “Instead of the RBI Governor, the Prime Minister made this announcement. Technically, this is wrong”.

She also harped on the fact that several eminent economists have criticised this move: “Several eminent economists said demonetisation is a bad move. From Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen to World Bank economists to Manmohan Singh Ji have criticised the move”

She also came down heavily on the Government for inconsistencies on the new notes: “There are many inconsistencies in the new currency notes. How will people understand whether or not they are fake?”

She said, “The economy has slowed down. Industrial production has slowed down. They have snatched away the earnings of farmers, of workers, of labourers and of States, and are boasting of increase in earnings”.

She said, “They have sold off the country. There is no way we can support the BJP. We will continue our protests in the future for the rights of the people”.

বিগ বাজারের বিগ বস দেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রী হয়ে বসেছেনঃ মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় 

লখনৌয়ের বিশাল জনসভার পর, আজ বুধবার পাটনায় কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের নোট বাতিলের সিদ্ধান্ত প্রত্যাহারের দাবিতে জনসভা করেন তৃণমূল নেত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেন, বিগ বাজারের বিগ বস এখন দেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রী হয়ে বসেছেন।  তাই সাধারণ মানুষের কষ্টের কথা না ভেবে তিনি এই তুঘলকি সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন।

সিনেমা জগতের কিছু লোক নোটবন্দিকে সমর্থন করেছেন। হয়তো ওদের ভয় দেখানো হয়েছে

দেশের অর্থনীতি ধ্বংস হয়ে গেছে। শিল্প উৎপাদন বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে

সাধারণ মানুষের জমানো টাকা, রাজ্যের টাকা কেড়ে ওরা বলছে ওদের আয় বেড়েছে
