After Mamata Banerjee came into power, four new medical colleges have been set up in the state with an aim to provide health services to all in a better way.
Keeping that in mind the West Bengal Government has planned 10 more medical colleges within next one year. The Government is also planning to start DNB (Doctor of National Board) course, which will be equivalent to FRCS and MRCP in some medical colleges. These colleges would be set up on PPP model and international corporate sector groups have been asked to be part of this endeavour. This information was given by Dr Nirmal Maji, parliamentary secretary for health and family welfare department while addressing a function organised by Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad of Medinipur Medical College.
The Government is aware that many people still go to other states for treatment. To change that situation it is working hard on infrastructure and development of government run hospitals and health centres. Now many of these hospitals and health centres are offering better quality of treatment and services.
In the meanwhile, West Bengal Government has also made a chair in the name of Subhas Mukhopadhay, the inventor of test tube baby, at Kolkata School of Tropical Medicine.
