People will give their verdict against Opposition’s canards: Mamata Banerjee

Trinamool Congress Chairperson Ms Mamata Banerjee led a huge padayatra today from Sukanta Setu in Jadavpur to  Gopalnagar in Hazra, via Golpark, Gariahat and Ballygaunge Phari.

She has already addressed four mass meetings in different parts of the city to campaign for the Trinamool candidates for the KMC Election 2015.

Before the padayatra, Mamata Banerjee addressed the audience at Sukanta Setu.  She said that despite several constraints, the Trinamool Government has performed well in the last four years and Kolkata is the No. 1 city in India despite being a non-planned one.

She reminded that in Delhi the citizens have to buy water whereas in Kolkata, water is provided free of cost. She also said that load shedding, which was a big problem earlier is now a thing of the past. The State is also increasing its power generation capacity, she said.

The Trinamool Chairperson said that a lot of work can be done if there is cooperation between KMC and the State Government; she thanked the Kolkata Mayor for all the work done in the city. She said that people do not believe in the canards spread against Trinamool Congress in some media channels. “We reside in their hearts,” the Chairperson said.

“Defeat the slander campaign and propaganda in the upcoming municipal polls,” she urged people. She said that people will teach those a lesson who had gave the slogan Bhaag Mamata Bhaag. “Some parties exist only on TV studios. It is not possible to capture Bengal by sitting in Delhi,” she added.

Abhishek Banerjee slams BJP at Tala Park

Trinamool Youth Congress today organized a huge rally at Tala Park in support of the Trinamool candidates for the Kolkata Municipal Election 2015.

TMYC National President Abhishek Banerjee, who was the main speaker, slammed the Opposition for the slander campaign against Mamata Banerjee.

Abhishek slams Centre

“Mamata Banerjee has been working relentlessly for Kolkata and the districts for the last five years. From beautification to setting up of modern garbage compactors, a lot of development happened in the last five years,” he said.

He also lashed out against the Centre for using agencies like CBI for political purpose. “Some people think they can gag our voice with the help of CBI, ED, SFIO. The more they harass Mamata Banerjee, the stronger our resolve will become,” he said.

BJP’s false promises

Abhishek added, “The Centre promised Achhe Din after elections. What have we got? U-turns. This is a govt of U-turns. Those who have no idea about the culture of Bengal, want to come to power in Bengal. They think they can come to power with the help of a few media houses. Media doesn’t vote, people do.”

Abhishek clearly underlined the fact that Trinamool was fighting the elections on the plank of development. He challenged the BJP to compare Mamata Banerjee’s first ten months in power with that of the Centre. He dared them to compete based on facts.

Agenda of development

Abhishek also credited Mamata Banerjee for solving the law and order situation in Jangalmahal and Darjeeling. He said while no CM visited these areas in the past, Mamata Banerjee visited the Hills 42 times.

He asked people to vote against the terror of CPM, vote against BJP’s communal politics, vote for development, vote for Trinamool.

Kolkata roads: A matter of pride for citizens

KMC made a commitment to provide the citizens of Kolkata with smoother roads. This promised has been fulfilled. Uneven roads and open craters on roads which remained unrepaired for days, now are tread upon effortlessly. There are around 4500 kilometres of roads combining the small and big ones.

During the last five years, almost all the roads in the city have been covered with mastic asphalt and black tar. This has resulted in increasing the speed of the vehicles and has reduced accidents.

There is very little scope to construct new roads in the city. In spite of that, two pilot projects have been taken up – construction of Ultadanga underpass and Kolkata Road project. This has been done despite many difficulties.

Three of the centrally located and the busiest roads in Kolkata the Park Circus Connector in east Kolkata, Rubi Connector and Anwar Shah Connector were in a ruinous state. These roads have been handed over to Kolkata Municipal Corporation by the KMDA.

For the convenience of the citizens, roads have been made wider by narrowing the footpaths at places like Camac Street, Suhrawardy Lane, Park Circus. Roads at Joka and adjoining areas are now at par with roads of the rest of the city, thanks to the special initiatives of the Roads and Asphaltum Department of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

For the first time in north Kolkata, ritzier milling machines have been used to renovate roads, thus providing better movement. Now, the roads of Kolkata are at par with the beautification drive of the city. They are a matter of pride to the citizens. Gone are the days of earthen roads or uneven roads. Beautiful and well built roads have resulted in even movements. Decorating dividers on major roads by planting shrubs has been an initiative to make the city green and beautiful.
