Bengal Govt to e-auction land for Analytics City in Kalyani

The West Bengal government will next month hold an e-auction for bidding of land to set up an analytics city early adjacent to Kalyani Township in Nadia district in association with the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I).

Speaking at Round Table Meeting with the stakeholders of the ambitious project, organised by the BCC&I, state Urban Development Principal Secretary Debashis Sen said the government would soon publish an advertisement inviting “Request For Proposal” (RFP) from those willing to participate in the tender process.

“After finalising this process, the state government will proceed for bidding of land through e-auction early next month to develop the “Sammriddhi-Kalyani Analytics City,” Sen said.

The project, one of the six smart cities of the state based on various themes, had received special mention in the meetings of the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her recent visit to London.

With an investment of Rs 3,000 crore, the project would come up in about three years on 52 acres offered by the state government to develop the city.

Kalyani Analytics Hub raises industry hope

The proposed analytics city in Kalyani is likely to attract investments of more than Rs 3,000 crore in next three years. In the first phase, being developed over 52 acres off Kalyani Expressway, the hub will accommodate academic, residential and commercial centers apart from real estate projects.

According to Kallol Dutta, the immediate past president of BCCI, the original plan is to set it up on 250 acres. In that case, the investment will go up to Rs 6,000 crore.

Holistic solution to consumers

While MNCs in the field of banking, insurance, retail, telecom and automotive industries have in-house data and analytics facilities, there is no analytic hub that can provide holistic solution to analytics consumers. While a number of small boutique analytics service providers have come up in the country, the state is looking at bringing the majors under one umbrella.

With research facilities being proposed inside the city, there are proposals to tie up with the education institutions. Apart from universities in the country, efforts are on to tie up with foreign universities. Apart from organizing road shows, chief minister Mamata Banerjee will showcase the project during her visit to London.

Data and analytics, which require strong science, puts India in an advantageous position with a ready talent pool. “We have a large talent pool in Bengal who work in other cities. The analytics city will have access to the talent pool available within the state,” Sen said.

A business analytics hub, first of its kind in India, to come up in Bengal

West Bengal Government will support a project to set up a hub for business analytics in the State, first of its kind in the country.

The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I), which took the initiative, has identified a 250-acre of land on the Kalyani Expressway for the project.

“It’s a new concept and first of its kind in the country. Lots of land are there in Kalyani. I’ve heard many townships have been planned there… Knowledge City and other townships. These are not agricultural, but marshy land,” state minister for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Firhad Hakim told reporters at a business analytics summit.

“The Analytics Hub will be a private initiative with government support. The government will give the permission and if successful it will open up a new horizon… If we can do it here then West Bengal will be the first state to host such a city in the country,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the state’s Finance and Industry minister Amit Mitra welcomed the initiative said “availability of land will not be a problem for the project.”

BCC&I president-elect and Head, Management of Consulting at KPMG Advisory Services, Ambarish Dasgupta said “We have been talking to the state government for the land. It has suggested that 250-acres could be made available for the project in that area.”

According to Kallol Datta, the outgoing president of BCC&I, the project is expected to attract investments in between Rs 3,000 – Rs 5,000 crore besides, generating thousands of employment.
