Manas Bhunia speaks on the need for reducing the required percentage of disability for getting Central Govt help from 80 to 50

FULL TRANSCRIPT
Thank you Sir. In our country there is an enormous number of physically challenged and handicapped people, both male and female, who need active support from the Central Government and the State Governments. At present the standing rules and direction are, if any physically challenged person does not have 80 per cent of a particular disability then the person would not get help from the Central Government.
This has created a serious situation when most of the physically challenged are not getting any support. In West Bengal, the State Government, under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, has made a rule that a person with disability of 40 to 50 per cent may get all possible support including financial support. It is a very unfortunate situation when some many physically challenged boys and girls, and adult women and men are not getting any kind of support from the Central Government.
This situation demands a serious look and thinking from the Central Government – to reduce the percentage of disability required form 80 to 50 in order to provide all possible help, including financial help. I urge upon the Government through you, Sir, to consider this and reduce the required percentage for the physically challenged people to get help from 80 to 50.
