Derek O’Brien’s intervention regarding The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2017

Derek: Sir, this is a very important Bill. We have heard so many speakers. There about 12 or 13 speakers still left from this side. We understand that the Hon Minister is not here for professional assignments. That is fair enough, Sir. Tomorrow if he is going to give his reply, then he must listen to some of the speakers from this side, tomorrow. Otherwise, these speakers will be speaking today, and he will give a reply tomorrow – that is not the spirit of this debate, Sir.
Speaker: The Minister of State will convey this to the Minister.
Derek: Sir, this is a very important Bill. You are listening to MPs from across the floor. This is a big issue. The Minister is a serious Minister, with a lot of experience. Sir, you are hearing a lot of string speeches, starting with the Congress party, then it went to Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, BJD, AAP – everyone is speaking. This is a federal issue. We are debating. Some of us have amendments, which we will move.
I am suggesting, please keep some of the voices, so that the Minister can hear them tomorrow.
Are you (the Minister) ready to reply today? Give an assurance to the House. Give a reply. Let us finish the debate. There are 14 speakers. Let there be voting. We are ready to move amendments. Then we will have the division today. Is it possible to finish the debate today?
