FULL TRANSCRIPT

West Bengal has received 2nd prize in highest reduction in Infant Mortality Rate in the country in 2017. In 2016, West Bengal was first among all states.

Infant Mortality Rate in West Bengal is 26 per 1000 births, down from 32 in 2011 and 28 in 2016. The staggering reduction in Infant Mortality Rate has been achieved due to the commitment of the state government in improving the Public Health Care system in the state, including maternal health care and child care.

This was announced at the National Summit on Best Practices and Innovations in Public Health Care Systems organised by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The IMR in West Bengal, which stands at 26, is much less than the national average of 37.
