FULL TRANSCRIPT

Thank you, Hon’ble Speaker Sir for giving me the opportunity to speak on the Demands for Grants under the control of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Sir, in my constituency 38 Bardhaman Purba in West Bengal there is no national highway, but there is a single 120 km connecting road from Katwa to Gurap national highway via Kalna, Boichi. But this road being single lane becomes very busy and leads to accidents very frequently. If this single road can be made four lane national highway then the local people will benefit a lot.

Sir, secondly, there was a proposal being made by the National Highway Authority of India previously, which said that it would connect Kharagpur to Behrampore national corridor road national highway via Bardhaman Katwa. I will be grateful if you will let me know the condition of the proposal. When will the work start for this?

Third, Sir, in the national highway NH2 Durgapur to Kolkata, there are four toll tax booths but in the evening, from 5 PM to 12 midnight, there is a huge road jam, which makes normal people suffer a lot. Even ambulances find it difficult to pass the area, which sometimes leads to deaths of patients. The reason behind this traffic jam is that the people who work here lack basic computer operating knowledge, which leads to error most of the time, thus leading to traffic jam.

So, I would like to request the Minister, through you, to bring out a rule which will employ those people having a certified computer course, just to avoid the situation in the future.

Thank you.
