Sudip Bandyopadhyay speaks on National Registration of Citizens (NRC) in Assam

FULL TRANSCRIPT

Madam, we have give one adjournment motion also (on this issue). On our behalf, Saugata Roy has placed it.

Madam, today in the morning, the National Registration of Citizens (NRC) of Assam deleted the names of 40,07, 760 citizens from the declared list. The first list was declared on June 7 and the second list was declared today.

When the first list was declared, those names which were deleted, were asked to produce their documents again. They made it. They are now being told, they can submit their papers again. But, they are saying that they have submitted all the papers, and they are authenticating the documents placed before the board.

Now, Madam, where will these 40 lakh people go? It is inhuman. It is a mental torture. I would request the Central Government and hon Home Minister to take this issue up very seriously. Some step should be taken very promptly. Justice should not be denied to these people at any cost. Fresh revision should be on top priority, under the supervision of the Government of India. If necessary, amendment must be moved so that these people may get shelter.

Why is this step being taken only in Assam? Why not in other States? Government of India should give assurance that these 40 lakh people will not be denied justice.
