Prasun Banerjee speaks on The National Sports University Bill, 2018

Thank you, Sir. I am happy I got a chance to speak on this Bill. I am the first footballer MP, I was the India captain, I got the Arjuna Award, I played in the Asian Games and in the Olympics. This is a wonderful day for me. With your permission, I want to speak in my mother tongue.
আমাকে বলার জন্য সুযোগ দেওয়ায় সবাইকে আমি ধন্যবাদ ও অভিনন্দন জানাচ্ছি। আমি ধন্যবাদ জানাচ্ছি মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়কে। The National Sports University Bill, 2018-এর জন্য আমি গর্ব বোধ করি, মন্ত্রীকে অভিনন্দন জানাই। এটা ভারতবর্ষে অনেক আগে হওয়া উচিত ছিল, দেরি হয়েছে, অনেক পরে হচ্ছে। National Sports University Bill খুব ভালো করে করতে হবে, seriously করতে হবে, এখানে কোনও রাজনীতি চলবে না। এখানে কোনও কংগ্রেস, বিজেপি, তৃণমূল চলবে না। Sports is sports.
আমার প্রথম পয়েন্ট হল – The National Sports University প্রথম হয়েছিল জার্মানিতে। তারপর আমেরিকাতে হয়েছে। এখন ভারতে হচ্ছে বলে খুব ভালো লাগছে। একটা SAI বানানো হয়েছে – এটা সেরকম যেন না হয়। National মেডিক্লেম হতেই হবে। প্রধানমন্ত্রী ও মন্ত্রীর কাছে আমার আবেদন থাকবে খেলার ক্ষেত্রে বরাদ্দ অর্থের পরিমান যেন বৃদ্ধি করা হয়। জেতার আগে অনেকের খাবার জোটে না, গ্রামে গ্রামে সব ঘুরে বেড়ায়। দরকার হলে প্রধানমন্ত্রীকে বলে ওদের জন্যে টাকার ব্যাবস্থা করা উচিত। আমার মনে হয় এটা হওয়া দরকার।
My first point is, make sports compulsory in schools and colleges. Secondly, do not distinguish between sportspersons with respect to district-level, State-level, etc. We are all for India. No politics in sports. And promote sports other than cricket. Make them play Kabaddi. পয়সা ছাড়া গল্প করে লাভ নেই। Hum jante hain Government ke paas paisa kum hain, tab bhi hum bolna chahte hain ki district, block, sab jagah se bacche ko lana chahiye. Train them well, give them facilities.
Aur negative baat nahin hona chahiye. Hamara team Olympics mein jaane se pehle puchta hain ki ‘jeet payenge’? Please stop it. Hamara sports bank bahut delicate hona chahiye. All the time negative attitude. Ek match chal raha tha, hamara coach bola kitna goal khayenge, Prasun? I said not a single goal. We won the match. Negative attitudes all the time should be stopped. আমার মনে হয় আপনার করা উচিত। Jitna jan dekhte hain, sabko support karna chahiye. Uske andar aap log politics mat laiye.
Yeh mera ek dukh ki baat hain ki Under-17 World Cup jo hua tha, pehle aap logon ne kahaan ki Prasun ji aapko reception denge, aur dus (10) din baad bola, nahin Prasun ji, aapka naam nahin hain. Kis liye mera naam nahin hoga? I got the Arjuna Award, I am a three-time Asian Games player. I got the Rajiv Gandhi award, I was also the Indian captain, aur first time India mein Under-17 World Cup ho raha tha, humko thoda bhi respect nahin mil sakta? Idhar bhi politics ho gaya? Trinamool karte hain bolke chhod diya humko? Please aise mat kariye. Hum bhi nahin karenge. Sports mein hum sab ko milke jana hain.
Hamara bolna hain, aap school se shuru kariye, Sir. Compulsory kijiye sports. School se shuru kariye. আমার মনে হয়ে আপনারা কমপালসারী করুন। Catch them young means catch them young. Districts mein koi nahin jaata hain, koi pahunchta hii nahin udhar. Aap log bhejiye. Kisko bhejenge? Koi IAS officer nahin, bhejiye Olympic player, bhejiye sportsman ko, to select the players.
Hamara bolne ka irada hain ki itna bada cheez ho raha hain, National Sports University Bill, yeh zaroor hoga. Manipur mein hoga, accha hoga. Sab jagah mein hona chahiye. Why not Bengal? Why not Punjab? Why not Kerala? Everywhere hona chahiye. Purey country mein hona chahiye.
Bengal is known for football. Olympic captains who played in the famous clubs in our State went to the Olympics four times: T Aao in 1948, S Manna in 1952, Badru Banerjee in 1956 and PK Banerjee in 1960. All the top players are there in Bengal. Saurav Ganguly is there. Jhulan is there. All the sports-minded people are there. Support these people. Set up a university in Bengal. You organised the World Cup final in Bengal. How good it was!
Jitendra Ji bol rahey the, kuchh nahin hoga, zero hoke aa rahe hain. Arre, zero toh hoga hi. Hum Olympics mein 10 rupiya kharchah karte hain, aur chhota sa Guam Island itna paisa kharch karta hain, khana khilate hain, taiyaar karte hain. He should be taken up as a national property, aap jisko jisko select karenge. He should be a national property. Uska khana, chalna, peena — sab dena hoga. They should be national property. Hum log roti khake World Cup jeetenge, yeh nahin hoga.
Thank you, last but not the least, Sir, ek baat bolke I will finish. আমার মনে হয় যে কোনও খেলোয়াড়, সে দেশের সম্পদ সে একটি অ্যাম্বাসাডার। You are all here, Pele came to India, he is the king of world football. I played with him on September 24, 1977. He told me, Prasun Banerjee, just listen, play football, see the world, be a gentleman and you fly your national flag all over the world in honour of your country.
Thank you Sir. We support this Bill. I also request the Government to set up a second such university in Kolkata.
