Partha Pratim Roy speaks on the havoc caused in north Bengal due to flooding of Brahmaputra

FULL TRANSCRIPT

For the people of Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri districts, the primary source of water are the three rivers – Teesta, Torsha and Jaldhaka. All these three rivers are tributaries of Brahmaputra, flowing from Tibet. So when heavy rainfall occurs in the Himalayan region, Brahmaputra is flooded, and these rivers causes havoc in villages of the districts.

In extreme situations, communication within villages is lost. Every year people suffer in these three districts due to the flooding of Brahmaputra. The Ministry of Water Resources had formed a Brahmaputra Board in 1982 to address the issue in the Brahmaputra Valley.

I, therefore, demand to the Government to respond to the situation of Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri district.
