Mumtaz Sanghamita protests against the shutdown of Durgapur Thermal Power Station

FULL TRANSCRIPT
Madam, I want to speak on a very important matter concerning my constituency. There is a power plant under DVC at Durgapur (the Durgapur Thermal Power Station). It supplies power to all the nearby industrial areas as well as for public consumption – for about more than 2 lakh people around there.
The power plant was established in 1960s and it has all facilities nearby. But, unfortunately under a lame excuse, the plant is being repeatedly and gradually being shut down. This will create unemployment for about 5 thousand people working in that area. In this respect, they have closed down two of such (units), and one is on the verge of closing down.
So, it is my earnest request to the Hon Minister in charge, through you, to immediately revive the present plant, as well as the establish a new plant with a capacity of more than 1000 MW for the benefit of the people of my constituency.
