Asit Mal speaks on the issues plaguing the proper functioning of Visva Bharati University

FULL TRANSCRIPT
Hon’ble Speaker Sir, I am Shri Asit Kumal Mal, elected for the first time from Bolpur 31 Parliamentary (SC) Constituency. I convey my regards to you. I also convey my sincere love and respect to all the members of the Parliament. I am highly obliged for giving me chance to say something in Parliament.
I would like to draw your kind attention to some problems of Visva Bharati University situated in Santiniketan. Visva Bharati University is a famous university in India. Students come from other States and foreign countries. But it is very unfortunate that teachers’ appointment has been closed for a long time (at the university). As a result, the students are being deprived of proper education. Besides, recruitment of non-teaching staff has also been closed for 19 years. As a result, laboratory functions are about to be closed.
My second point, Sir, is that the admission fees have been increased four-fold and the price of admission forms has been increased two-fold. As a result, the poor and meritorious students are facing a great inconvenience.
My last point, Sir. The Pearson Memorial Hospital has been closed at present, because there is no doctor or staff. Students are being deprived of proper treatment.
Sir, the Hon’ble Prime Minister is the Chancellor of the University. I would request the PM, through you, to please look into the matter personally and solve the problem as early as possible.
