Onus of returning money to the poor people is on CBI now: Didi at Baharampur

Trinamool Chairperson today addressed a rally at Baharampur in support of the party candidate Indranil Sen. During her speech she said that now that the Supreme Court has ordered a CBI probe into Saradha case, the onus of returning money is also with the CBI and the Central Government.

Excerpts from Didi`s speech:

We are campaigning despite the heat and I amthankful to people are attending the rallies in large numbers. We are observingRabindra Jayanti today. This day, 25se Boishakh, is an iconic day not only forBengal but for the rest of the world.

Elections will have to be free and fair.Baharampur is not the zamindari ofsome individuals. Use of muscle and money power cannot win votes. People willvote freely here.

Had it not been for Trinamool, the Leftcould not have been ousted from power in Bengal. Trinamool stands for poriborton, development, people, unityof Hindus and Muslims. We are work for everyone, without making anydiscrimination.

Baharampur has always been electingCongress candidates. Has any development happened here? Congress has a secretunderstanding with the CPI(M). They have jointly exploited people. There shouldbe a Lakshman Rekha in publicdiscourse. The Opposition has crossed all limits.

The Netai issue was being investigated byCBI. But they failed to nab the criminals. Our CID caught them. Was the CentralGovt sleeping all this while? What action did they take against chit funds? Afterwe came to power, the owner of chit fund got arrested. Centre is not evengiving its assent to our anti chit fund Bill. Now the onus of returning moneyto the people is on the CBI.

The Congress and the CPI(M) are responsiblefor the rise of BJP. Trinamool is in favour of people. Congress supportscorruption. The BJP stands for riots and CPI(M) has destroyed Bengal. Igenerated one lakh jobs as Railway Minister. Some junior ministers of theRailways these days behave as if they are the PM. And then we have some PMcandidates. It is like fixing the date of marriage of a baby even before it isborn.

Law and order is State Subject. No one cantouch a single person in our State without our permission. Some people want todivide the people of Bengal. They should be arrested and sent to jail. Do notsupport match-fixing. CPI(M)-Congress-BJP are playing fixed matches.

Vote for joraphool. Help us get our rights back from the Centre.

Statement by Trinamool Congress

Dr Amit Mitra, the National Spokesperson of Trinamool Congress and the Minister of Finance, Commerce and Industry Minister of West Bengal Government today addressed thepress regarding the Supreme Court decision in Saradha case. Here is thestatement:

  • The decision of the SC comes just 2 days before the major and final roundof polls in West Bengal. However, we respect the Constitution and theJudiciary. West Bengal Government welcomes the Supreme Court (SC) judgment onSaradha scam.
  • We are happy to hear that the SC has praised the work of the SpecialInvestigation Team (SIT) appointed by the West Bengal Government. We have alsocome to know that the SC has decided that SIT will keep investigating the caseswhere it has lodged charge sheets already.
  • Several cases like the murders in Netai and murders in Nandigram are beinginvestigated by CBI but they have failed to do justice for years. Hope CBI willbe successful in the investigation of Saradha case.
  • What we have learnt is that SC entrusted the probe to CBI becauseinvestigation has to be carried out in other States and Other Countries of theworld on matters like money laundering.
  • Hope the CBI will also shed light and bring to books the perpetrators of Sanchayitathat happened in 1980s. People were duped & have not got their money backeven today.
  • Saradha started its operations in 2006 when the Left Front, led by CPI(M) wasin power. I have myself tabled in WB Assembly pictures of CPI(M) leadersholding hands with Saradha bosses at several events. CPI(M) mouthpiece Ganashaktinewspaper has received funds from Saradha in the form of advertisements foryears. This must be probed. The publication of Ganashakti called the Dialreceived advertisement from Saradha pages after pages, year after year. Thistoo must be probed.
  • Our government took an unprecedented step of forming a Commission to returnmoney to people duped by Saradha. Nowhere in the world has a Commission everbeen made to return money to people duped by ponzi schemes.
  • 4 lakh people have already got their money back. 2.5 lakh people more willget money back as processed before the Code of Conduct came into effect. Thiscan be implemented after the Elections.
  • It is our Government that arrestedour own MP. Which other Party has done so in the wake of all the corruptioncharges in the Nation.
  • We hope the probe by the CBI will be free and fair and justice will be doneto all the people duped by Saradha.
  • Additionally, the media must highlight the fact that SC has said that SITis free to carry on their investigation as per their charge sheets.
  • We are happy that the SC has appreciated the initiative taken by the WBGovt to return money to people.
  • Our Government passed a Bill in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly to legallyempower the State to act against chit funds. We sent it to the Centre forPresidential assent. Accepting the advice of the Centre, we passed a secondBill with modification the Centre suggested. Yet, the Centre is still sittingover our Bill against chit funds. They have to answer why they are doing so.
  • People must know the chit fund scams started during Left Front regime. Wedo not know of any amount of money returned to the investors of Sanchayitascam. What action did the Left Front take against Saradha, after it was foundedin 2006?
  • In 2009, the Left Front passed a faultyBill against chit funds which was rejected by the Centre.
  • The Bill we sent to Centre for Presidential assent could have empowered theState machinery to act against chit funds. But the Centre has still notapproved our Bill. Our hands are tied behind our back. Even then we have formeda Commission, we have constituted SIT. We have arrested and filed chargesagainst perpetrators. We have returned money to 4 lakh poor people who wereduped and another 2.5 lakh await being compensated by the State.
  • With full confidence I say, what Bengal has done today what the rest of Indiaand the world will follow tomorrow.
Speaking at a rally earlier today, Trinamool Chairperson Ms. Mamata Banerjee today said that now the onus to refund the money to the poor depositors is on CBI

Unlike the Left, Trinamool does not need to rig polls to win: Didi at Tala Park

Trinamool Chairperson today addressed arally at Tala Park in North Kolkata in support of the party candidate SudipBandyopadhyay. Speaking at the rally, the Chairperson said that unlike theCPI(M), Trinamool does not need to rig polls to win. People`s support is withthe party.

Excerptsfrom the Chairperson`s speech:

We have not forgotten the atrocitiescommitted by the Left during their 34 year rule. Today peace prevails inKeshpur, Garbeta, Jangalmahal and Darjeeling. Trinamool does not need to rigpolls. During Left rule, polls were rigged in North Kolkata. I request all myparty workers not to fall into the traps laid by the Opposition.

We love people of all caste, creed andreligion. We have given second language status to Nepali, Hindi, Urdu, Gurmukhiand Al Chiki. The Left deprived ageneration from learning English because of their faulty policies. The Lefteven removed Rabindranath Tagore`s Sahaj Pathfrom the curriculum.

Let there be a political debate. Let theOpposition counter us on policies. Instead the Opposition is engaging inmalicious propaganda. The Left incurred debts and the Centre took away all ourmoney. But did any Opposition party protest? Some people are talking aboutthrowing Bengalis out of India. They do not even know the difference betweenrefugee and infiltrator.

The three parties – CPI(M), Congress andBJP – have formed a nexus. The CPI(M) does not work for the people on theground. All they can do is sit in TV studios and criticise us. The Oppositionis jealous and hence they are indulging in malicious attacks against us.

BJP has declared a PM candidate. They havefixed the date of marriage of a baby even before it is born. The BJP iscollecting funds in the name of PM. This is illegal and unconstitutional. Somepeople are using money power to become the PM, then even Dawood Ibrahim is alsoeligible for the PM`s post.

Despite the financial crunch, we are No. 1in 100-Days Work Scheme. There was only 1 university during Left regime. In twoand half years we have set up 8 new ones. Only 3 new colleges were set upduring Left regime. We have set up 45 Govt and private colleges. Our fair pricemedicine shops and diagnostic centres are a model. We have distributedscholarships to 57 lakh minority students. We have distributed cycles to 2.5lakh girl students.

Bengal is ahead of Gujarat in terms of bankcredit flow in MSME. Our growth is 160%, their growth is 50%. Bengal spent Rs5500 crore for job creation in 100-Days Work Scheme. Gujarat spent only Rs 500crore. Bengal is ahead of Gujarat in welfare of the people. True development isthrough serving the people.

If I was in power at Centre instead of theCongress, I would have arrested him for threatening to send people away fromIndia. This is our motherland. This soil is pure. We will not tolerate anyinsult to the soil of Bengal. Those who threaten to send people away fromIndia, will be packed off from Bengal through ballots.

Vote for joraphool on May 12. We will build a new India, a better India. Wewill establish Trinamool as a national party. Vote for joraphool and teach alesson to CPI(M), Congress and BJP through ballots. We have formed an alliancewith the Ma, Mati, Manush. Bless us with your votes.

BJP PM candidate making distinctions between refugees and infiltrators on religious lines: Didi at Behala

Trinamool Congress Chairperson Ms. MamataBanerjee addressed an election campaign rally at Behala Chowrasta in support ofthe Trinamool candidate of the South Kolkata constituency, Subrata Bakshi.

She had started the day by addressing acampaign rally in support of Chowdhury Mohan Jatua, the Mathurapur constituencycandidate, at Namkhana and later addressed rallies at Maheshtala and Metibruzin support of the candidate for Diamond Harbour constituency, Abhishek Banerjee.

Atthe Behala rally she said, “Someone has made claims against me. I did not throwpapers on the Speaker`s face in 2005 to protest against infiltrators fromBangladesh. It was on an entirely different issue. I got an internal reportfrom the party which said that only 54,000 of the 2 lakh ration cards in thebordering districts of Bengal were valid. Most ration cards were bogus and given to CPI(M) cadre. I protested because they were getting the foodgrains meant for poor by breaking the law. After we came to power we removed many bogus ration cards.”

She said that the BJP`s Prime Ministerialcandidate was making a distinction between refugees and infiltrators on religiouslines. “Who are you, trying to drive out people from this State? Bengalispeaking people have been discriminated against for long. They are beingpersecuted in Assam, Delhi and Bihar. Whoever speaks in Bengali is branded aMuslim from Bangladesh. Bengal has a different history and inclusive culture.Study our history before making such comments,” she said.

“People of Bengal are being dubbed asrefugees and shamed. Some people are being called infiltrators. If they try todivide Bengal, if they try to evict anyone, I will guard you. I will not letanyone touch you. He said I respect refugees. Who is a refugee? Does heunderstand what it means?” Ms. Banerjee said.

The party Chairperson also expressedsurprise over Modi`s promise of Indian citizenship to the Matua community. “Havethey (BJP) gone mad? What citizenship is he talking about? I have a ministerfrom the Matua community in my cabinet,” said Ms. Banerjee.

The Trinamool Chairperson reiterated thatthe people`s representative is responsible to work for the people and to bebeside them always. She said that she had never taken the government facilitieslike pension s or cars she is entitled to as a Central Minister and MP, always travelledin economy class and never took government quarters. BJP won’t be able to form a Government on its own, no question of backing even if they beg: Didi at Metiabruz

Trinamool Congress Chairperson Ms. MamataBanerjee said she would not back the BJP even if it begged with her. “Take itfrom me, the BJP won`t be able to form the government in Delhi on its ownbecause it won`t get more than 160 seats. There is no question of backing youeven if you beg,” Ms. Banerjee said in Metiabruz, while campaigning for AITYNation President and candidate from Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat, AbhishekBanerjee.

During her 35-minute speech, Ms. Banerjeeaccused the BJP PM candidate of inflaming the situation in Assam, where 39people have died in violence since Thursday. “Don`t give a single vote to aperson who has inflamed the situation in Assam, forcing affected people to fleetheir homes,” she said.

Countering claims by Opposition about the rise in crime against women, the party Chairperson said: “I came to know that dangababu has spoken about violenceagainst women in Bengal. But this is not expected from a person who hadconcealed his wife`s name for so long. She has to silently suffer all throughher life.”

The party Chairperson said that sheexpected all the leaders to lead a simple life as she does.  She said that she has no family and herfamily is the people of Bengal. She also said that the people of the DiamondHarbour constituency are being entrusted to act as a guardian to Abhishek, whois relatively young.

Those who want to divide Bengal must be defeated democratically: Didi at Titagarh

Trinamool ChairpersonMs. Mamata Banerjee addressed at a campaign rally in Titagarh in support of theparty candidate from the Barrackpore constituency, Dinesh Trivedi. She thankedall the people who were present for their support towards Trinamool Congresssince 2009. She slammed the BJP for the threats to divide Bengal alongreligious and linguistic lines. She said any threat to divide the people ofBengal will be answered in equal measure.

Excerpts from the Chairperson`s speech:

Bengalis and non Bengalishave been staying together in these areas which include Bhatapara, Titagarh, Barrackporeand Jagaddal. The non Bengalis are as much rightful citizens of Bengal as theBengali speaking people here. Dinesh Trivedi ji also hails from Gujarat. But he is also a resident of Bengal. Wehave leaders with roots in different states of India. Trinamool is apluralistic party. We work for all.

On the occasion ofChhat puja, every Trinamool leader, MP and MLA participates in the worship of Ganga Maiyya. CPI(M), Congress, BJPnever participate in festivals with the people. We also participate in Roza during the month of Ramazan. DoesGujarat have any Bengali MLA? We have Gujarati, Punjabi, Bihari as well asRajasthani MLA. Does Gujarat give a holiday for Chhat Puja or Shab-E-Barat? Wedo. Bengal is a smaller version of India. When earthquake struck Gujarat in 2001,I helped the State as Railway Minister.

People of all faith, caste, and creed live together in peace in Bengal. This makes `Dangababu` very jealous and angry. Theyare now collecting `Modi for PM fund`. We have never anything like this. This `Modifor PM` fund is illegal. PM and CM can only have Relief Fund. How can a politicalparty collect fund for PM? We will write to the EC against this.

These elections arethe blackest elections. Some parties have even bought the media. The CPI(M) hassold its ideology to the BJP and the Congress. The BJP PM candidate sometimestalks about dividing Bengalis and non Bengalis, sometimes he threatens to sendBengalis away from India. Now I am even hearing they are protesting against theEC in Varanasi. This is unheard of. Not just Muslims, even women are afraid ofhim. We will never allow him to incite riots in Bengal. We will survive on halfa roti, but we will never beg foralms.

We have started ascheme called Nija Griha Nija Bhoomi togive house and land to people. 2 lakh people have benefited. Barrackpore wasonce an industrial region. We will rebuild the infrastructure. Our Finance andIndustry Minister, Amit Mitra is looking into it. We will build big industrialclusters. That will generate a lot of employment.

People who want todestroy the communal harmony of Bengal should be democratically defeated inthese elections. Do we have to learn about Hinduism from BJP? Why? Don`t weworship Maa Durga, Maa Kali and Hanuman ji?We do not play politics of religion. The CPI(M) started this kind of politics.BJP is continuing their tradition. They tried to divide Biharis and Marathis inMaharashtra.

Bengalis who speak inBangla are branded illegal Bangladeshis elsewhere in India. Why can`t theycounter us on policy and development issues? Why are they playing divisivepolitics? This is the time to save the nation. If they come to power, they willsell the nation and incite riots.

CPI(M)-Congress-BJPare playing a got-up match. We will not allow match-fixing. The last phase ofthe elections is scheduled for May 12. Vote for joraphool. Help us strengthen our voice at the Centre. Ensure that webecome the third largest party at the Centre.
