Will not link my mobile number with Aadhaar, let authorities disconnect my connection: Mamata Banerjee
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashed out at the Centre on Wednesday, saying she will not link Aadhaar to her phone number and dared authorities to “disconnect it if they wanted to”.
“Under no circumstances will I link my Aadhaar with my telephone number. If the authorities disconnect my phone, let them do it. It will actually save me a lot of trouble as I won’t have to go through a number of text messages,” she said.
She was speaking at an extended core committee meeting of Trinamool Congress in Kolkata.
“I would urge you to protest in a similar manner. How many telephone connections will they disconnect? What does BJP want? Do they want to listen to people’s secrets. It’s a direct attack on privacy,” she said.
Describing the decision to link the two as an attack on privacy, the CM said, “After you link Aadhaar with your phone, even personal conversations between husband and wife will reach the BJP office. We are taking up the issue in and out of the Parliament. If need be, we may fight it legally too.”
The extended core committee meeting was held at Nazrul Mancha, in which MLAs, MPs, civic body chiefs, zilla parishad sabhadhipatis were present.

আজ নজরুল মঞ্চে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসের কোর কমিটির বৈঠকে বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে নানা ইস্যুতে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারকে আক্রমণ শানালেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। টেনে আনলেন নোট বাতিল থেকে শুরু করে আধার কার্ড-সহ একাধিক প্রসঙ্গ।
নজরুল মঞ্চে উপস্থিত কর্মী-নেতা-মন্ত্রীদের সামনে বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “কথায় কথায় বলছে আধার কার্ড চাই। জানেন আধার কার্ড দিলে কী হতে পারে ? স্বামীর সঙ্গে স্ত্রী কী নিয়ে কথা বলছে তা সরকার জেনে যাবে। সেটা BJP দপ্তরে পাঠিয়ে দেবে। আমি আমার নম্বরে কার সঙ্গে কথা বলব, তা তোমার জানার অধিকার নেই।”
মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “আমি চ্যালেঞ্জ নিয়ে বলছি, মোবাইল নম্বরের জন্য আধার কার্ড দেব না। তাতে যদি আমার নম্বর কেটে দেয়, কেটে দেবে। ব্যক্তিগত গোপনীয়তা আমার অধিকার।”
মঞ্চে উপস্থিত দলের নেতা-কর্মীদের উদ্দেশে বলেন, “আমি আধার কার্ড দেব না। আপনারা কেউ দেবেন ?” পালটা মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সুরে নেতা-কর্মীরা বলেন, আমরাও কেউ মোবাইল নম্বরের সঙ্গে আধার নম্বর দেব না।
