West Bengal to have 12 new blood banks

West Bengal Government is coming up with 12 new ultra modern blood banks. Currently the state has 58 blood banks including the banks in all the state run hospitals in Kolkata and in the districts.

There is a severe crunch in the blood requirement especially in the villages so the government has now decided to have the new blood banks in the backward districts of the state namely – Bankura, Jalpaiguri, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Murshidabad, 24 Parganas (South) and Cooch Behar.

Out of the 12 new announced, Bankura to get three blood banks in Chhatna, Onda and Borjora, one in Falakata in Jalpaiguri district. Paschim Medinipur to get four – Shalboni, Dobra, Nayagram and Gopiballabpur. Pashkura and Nandigram in Purba Medinipur. Sagardighi in Murshidabad and Metiabruz in 24 Parganas (South). The two in Cooch Behar are in Dinhata and Mathabhanga.

For these ultra modern 12 blood banks 210 new posts have been approved by the West Bengal Government. Every bank will have three medical officers and four technicians.
