WB CM says no to madrassa politics

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee on Friday criticized the attempts to paint all madrassas as terror hubs, saying it is a collective duty of all to bring the minority to mainstream.
“Let them also have a scope to learn,” she while replying to a question posed by the Opposition in the State Assembly.
“Yes there are unaided madrassas. They lack infrastructure like the aided ones. Educational institutions should impart education. I do not believe in such political statements. But, there are also model madrassas. Do you know that in some madrassas English is also taught? Minorities are also taking up studies in secondary and higher secondary curriculum. Some are even studying in Ramakrishna Mission. People can read anywhere. Terrorists are terrorists. Do not compare them with any caste, creed or religion. We have a responsibility to bring the minorities to the mainstream,” she said.
She added, “We have now managed to bring 94.5% of the Muslims under the OBC reservations.”
