Utkarsh Bangla wins SKOCH Skill Award – ‘GOLD’ category

The Utkarsh Bangla Scheme, implemented by the Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development (PBSSD), has been honoured with the prestigious SKOCH Award, winning the Skill Award in the ‘Gold’ category. The award was given away on February 25.
The PBSSD is a wing of the State Technical Education, Training and Skill Development Department.
Utkarsh Bangla was launched by the Bangla Government, as an initiative of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This flagship scheme is a welfare scheme for school dropouts, with the aim to provide them vocational training and thus make them employable.
Under this scheme each youth receives free training ranging from 400 to 1,200 hours in tailoring, driving, repairing television and other electronic equipment, beauty courses, and various other professions. The annual target of the scheme is to train 6 lakh youth per year.
The scheme also ensures that the students get the opportunity of campus placements after their training gets over.
At present there are 570 training providers, imparting training to 3.23 lakh candidates in over 30 different sectors, in 1,198 short-term training centres, 250 industrial training institutes (ITIs), 152 polytechnics and 3,390 vocational training centres.
