Utkarsh Bangla – Awarded at home and abroad

The success of Utkarsh Bangla is evident from the awards the scheme has received for providing lakhs of students of Bangla a future.
The scheme has received international recognition. In April 2019, the scheme was awarded the prestigious World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prize in the ‘Capacity Building’ category, given by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), a specialised agency of the United Nations, at a function held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The award was given to Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development (PBSSD), under the State Technical Education, Training and Skill Development Department, which is the implementing agency for the scheme.
Earlier in February, it was honoured with the prestigious SKOCH Award, winning the Skill Development Award in the ‘Gold’ category. In 2018, it had won the Skill Development Award in the ‘Bronze’ category.
Thus we see that skill development in Bangla has been got a huge impetus as a result of the successful implementation of the Utkarsh Bangla Scheme, for which the latter has won both international and national recognition.
The State Government is not resting on its laurels though. Utkarsh Bangla is moving forward with new courses, more training facilities and different types of incentives.
The Technical Education and Training and Skill Development Department, whose Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development (PBSSD) is the implementing agency of Utkarsh Bangla, has been allocated Rs 1,106 crore in the 2019 Budget (for financial year 2019-20).
