Tourism getting a major makeover, says Chief Minister in Assembly

The tourist spots of Bengal are getting a major boost, announced Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in response to a question in the Assembly on July 26.

The Government wants to make Nabadwip, the main base of the Vaishnavite culture in Bengal as well as of ISKCON, a heritage city.

Other religions places like Ganga Sagar, Tarapith, Dakshineswar, Belur Math, Furfurasharief and Patharchapari are also going in for major redevelopment.

The coastal hotspot of Tajpur and the birding zone and wildlife enclave of Bakkahali in the Sundarbans are being given special attention. A lot more tourists are already visiting the spots.

Darjeeling and the other spots in the Hills like Mirik is also getting a makeover.

Homestay tourism across the State and tea tourism are being given a lot of push, as the State Government has identified these two new areas of tourism as having a lot of potential for expansion.

The heritage linked to the great poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is being planned to be promoted in a big way. His birthplace in Churulia in the district Paschim Bardhaman is going to be developed. The brand-new Andal Airport, a university and an academy have already been named after him.
