Three-fold increase in revenues in transport sector
There has been a three-fold increase in government earnings from transport sector in the last 8 years from Rs 900 crore in 2011 to Rs 2500 crore in the current fiscal year. By the end of year, it will cross Rs 3000 crore.
The earnings have increased due to increase in sale of tickets, reduction in subsidies and an increase in the number of buses in the last eight years. The transport corporations have done business worth Rs 564 crore this fiscal.
The connectivity with far-off places in the State has increased, the transport minister said. Bus services have been augmented in districts, as well. The transport sector has seen a resurgence under Mamata Banerjee, he added.
