Third anniversary of historic Singur judgement

Today is the third anniversary of the historic judgement on Singur delivered by the Supreme Court of India. It was on August 31, 2016 that the highest court of the land gave a judgement that spelled the ultimate success of the Singur Movement, after 10 long years, a land rights movement that had brought Mamata Banerjee into the international limelight.
As a result of the judgement declaring the acquiring of the land by Tata Motors illegal, on September 14, 2016, Mamata Banerjee, now Chief Minister, handed over land deeds and cheques for monetary compensation to the original land-owners.
Singur is now a much happier place, with the farmers sowing paddy, potato, pulses, maize, til (sesame), mustard, etc. The whole site of the erstwhile car factory is now full of crops.
Mamata Banerjee tweeted this morning on the occasion of the anniversary.
On August 31, 2016, the SC, in a historic judgment declared the land acquisition in #Singur was illegal. On the 3rd anniversary of the historic judgment, my best wishes to all farmers of India. Agriculture and industry are two petals of the same flower and can happily co-exist
