Tender floated for Jhargram University

Ministry of Urban Development called for an e-tender for construction of Jhargram University. The cost of the first phase of the project will be Rs 20 crore. It will take 2 years to complete this phase of the project. During this phase, a three-storey library, three-storey students’ activity centre, three-storey boys’ and girls’ hostels with 100 beds each, three-storey hospital, three-storey guest house, two-storey electricity service centre and caretaker’s quarters will be constructed.

Last year, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation of the project on 27.22 acres of land on the Jhargram-Lodhasuli Highway. Initially, five streams will be taught in the university: humanities, social sciences, information science and media, science and technology and vocational courses. Students will also have the opportunity to study in Ol Chiki language.

This will be the third university in Paschimanchal, after Vidyasagar University in Purba Medinipur and Sidhu Kanhu University in Purulia. The local students will immensely benefit from the proposed university. They do not have to go to other districts or States for higher education.

It may be mentioned that the Jhargram district was created by Mamata Banerjee, fulfilling the long standing demand of the people.
