Tea plantation workers in North Bengal to come under one umbrella organisation

On the instructions of Trinamool Chaireperson Ms. Mamata Banerjee, initiatives have been taken up to unite all trade unions functioning in the Tea Gardens in Terai and Dooars. The body, Terai Dooars Plantation Workers` Union will fight for the workers` rights in this area.
A meeting was held on Monday regarding this issue and procedures were worked out according to the suggestion of the Chairperson. A big rally is to be organized on December 23 at Bahga Jatin Park, Siliguri which will address all the issues related to plantation workers.
State President, INTTUC, Ms. Dola Sen, Chief Whip of the party in the West Bengal Assembly Mr. Shovandeb Chatterjee and North Bengal Development Minister Mr. Goutam Deb will address people on the occasion. This historic rally will witness the participation of around 25,00 tea plantation workers coming from different areas of the North Bengal.
It may be recalled that the highest increase in wage, of Rs. 28, was made possible only after the Trinamool Congress formed the Government.
