Dr Partha Chatterjee, West Bengal's Education Minister, said that Tata Motors Ltd was welcome to return to its abandoned Singur factory, provided they return land to the unwilling farmers. Tata Motors was most welcome to set up industry on the rest of the land, he remarked.
“This will send a positive signal,” he said.
“Tatas are a very big industrial house. They have big projects in the state. They (Tatas) have love for people. We hope that they would be pro-active in the resolution of the Singur problem,” added the minister.
“Tatas are welcome in Bengal. We want them to expand their business in the state. We never had any fight with the Tatas. The only difference between us was in the process of acquisition of land at Singur,” Dr Chatterjee, who is also the state's Parliamentary Affairs Minister told reporters.
He also added that Mamata Banerjee went on a hunger strike for 26 days for the sake of the farmers from Singur. If Tatas return the land, the company's goodwill will be boosted, said Dr Chatterjee.
Previously on Monday, top officials of various Tata group companies called on WB CM at Nabanna and expressed their willingness to expand their factories in the state.
