State Govt to provide ready-to-eat food for children in Jhargram and Paschim Medinipur

The State Government will soon introduce ‘ready-to-eat’ meals for malnourished children for breakfast, which will be a blend of ground wheat, groundnut, Bengal gram and sugar. This was announced by the Women and Child Development Minister on Monday, July 1 while answering a question in the Assembly.

The meals would be introduced in the districts of Jhargram and Paschim Medinipur. They would be given at the anganwadi centres.

The children will be allowed to carry this ready-to-eat food home. The mixture would be edible after mixing in lukewarm water.

The department has offered training to self-help groups (SHGs) in the two districts regarding preparation of this ready-to-eat food.

This special meal scheme will gradually cover all the districts, the minister added.
