State Govt to collaborate with Finland for waste-to-energy project

The State Power and Non-Conventional Energy Sources Department is taking a serious step forward in considering taking technological assistance from Finland to create energy from waste.

Representatives from the Finnish delegation which attended the recent Bengal Global Business Summit discussed their proposal with the Power Department. It may be mentioned in this context that Finland utilises 99 per cent of its waste for producing energy.

A senior official of the department said that it will be sending a detailed proposal on the subject to the chief minister, on the basis of which more meetings will follow.

It may be mentioned that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has procured 20 acres from the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) at Chapna Mouza in Rajarhat. Fourteen acres of land will be used for dumping waste while the rest six acres will be utilised for a waste-to-energy project.
