State Govt giving stress on eco-tourism in Santiniketan

The Bengal Government has decided to set up an eco-tourism project in Santiniketan. The State Tourism Minister said this at the concluding programme of a three-day international summit on cultural tourism.
It will be located on a plot behind the Amar Kutir, a handicrafts cooperative producing products made of leather, bamboo and dokra, kantha-stitched saris, handloom products and batik.
Along with the Japanese ambassador, over 300 delegates, including from countries like Japan, China, Singapore and Bangladesh, and from all over India, participated.
The minister said that cultural tourism is essential in order to preserve the tradition, architectural heritage and culture of a place. Baul Bitan in Bolpur and Baul Academy in Joydeb-Kenduli, both in Birbhum district, are some of the important projects that the Tourism Department is overseeing.
