State Govt building India’s largest poultry farm in Kalyani
India’s largest poultry farm for the production of eggs is coming up in Bengal. The state-of-the-art farm, being built at a cost of Rs 30 crore in Kalyani, is in the last stages of construction, and would be inaugurated in October.
Eggs would begin to be produced six to seven months after the inauguration. On an average, 2.8 lakh eggs would be produced daily. Around 3 lakh chicks would be kept there to begin with. Another large poultry farm is coming up in Barjora.
The major part of the operations of the farm will be automated. Food and water for the chickens would automatically reach them. Other operations would be controlled by machines too
These farms are being developed by West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation Limited. They would go a long way in fulfilling the demand for eggs in Bengal, a part of which is imported from other States now.
