State Assembly passes anti-lynching Bill

The Bangla Assembly yesterday passed a Bill to punish people involved in lynching. The Bill, called “The West Bengal (Prevention of Lynching) Bill, 2019” was introduced and passed as the Centre had not introduced any similar legislation to prevent lynching.
Lynching is a social evil, and the Supreme Court has directed that action be taken against lynching, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in the Assembly during the discussion on the Bill. She said that everyone concerned has to come together to fight against it.
The Central Government should have brought a law against it but they are yet to do so, she said, and so the State Government is bringing this law to fight against this social evil.
