Special packages for foreign tourists centred on Durga Puja Carnival

The State Tourism Department has decided to create special packages for foreign tourists woven around the massively popular Durga Puja Carnival.
The carnival on Red Road in Kolkata – comprising of the best Durga Pujas of Kolkata and surrounding areas parading on special trailers, along with drummers (dhakis) and folk dancers – was started on the personal initiative of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
According to a senior Tourism Department official, a large number of foreign tourists had come to Bengal to witness the carnival. Hence it has been decided that from this year attractive packages would be started for them.
The packages would include visits to different tourist spots across the State. Through these packages, the State Government’s Homestay Tourism Policy too would be popularised. The Government in recent times has been giving a lot of thought to developing a viable homestay network in the Stay.
The carnival has helped in popularising Durga Puja among foreign tourists, bringing it to the attention of the world and giving it the fame it rightly deserves.
It was decided last year, on the demand of Durga Puja organisers from across Bengal, that such carnivals would be held in the district capitals too from this year.
