Rajya Sabha: Opposition demands resignation of Union Minister for derogatory remarks

Newly inducted Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in the Union Cabinet was held answerable by Opposition parties for using derogatory language during campaigning for Delhi Assembly elections.
Trinamool MP and Chief Whip of Rajya Sabha, Derek O’Brien demanded a reply from the Prime Minister for the use of unparliamentarily terms by his Cabinet colleagues; he also questioned their intension to cause communal riots.
“Please grant a visa to the Prime Minister of India to come to the Rajya Sabha, Sir. He must come to Rajya Sabha, answer serious questions nation is facing, like the poor language used by a Minister. We see him only taking selfies,” said Derek sarcastically in the Upper House of Parliament.
“Will the real BJP please stand up? They say something outside the House and wear a mask inside the House,” he added during an intervention.
Other Opposition parties too protested against the remarks made by the Union Minister.
The Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned several times due to Opposition’s protest. The parties demanded that Sadhvi Niranjan Jytoi must resign as Union Minister.
Earlier in the day, Derek O’Brien joined protests against the burning of a church in East Delhi. ‘Everybody is under attack, this is not about politics, it is about unity of India,” said Derek.
