Power Dept replacing old furnaces for a greener Bangla

Considering various environmental hazards, the State Power Department is dismantling the old furnaces at its power plants and replacing them with modern, energy-saving ones.

This comment was made the Power Minister while speaking at the Annual Environment and Energy Conclave organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry on August 23.

Almost all the old ones have been replaced by now. The modern ones replacing them are all super-critical furnaces capable of a wide range of operations, and cause much less pollution and are built to use much lesser energy (fuel) for their running.

All these facts make for them to be friendlier to the environment, thus contributing towards a greener Bangla.

Besides dealing with the furnaces, the minister said, the department is putting more efforts for setting up solar power capabilities, which is renewable energy and thus environment-friendly. The Power Department has set a target of producing 350 MW of solar power by the end of 2019.

Apart from solar power, the State Government, according to the minister, has also stressed on the development of hydropower and tidal power capabilities.
