Potatoes to be sold at Rs 14 per kilo at KMC shops

Potatoes to be sold at Rs 14 per kilo at KMC shops

Like the previous year, potato-loaded lorries will be stationed throughout the day at three areas of the city to sell the vegetable at the government fixed rate of Rs 14 per kg.

The sale points will be Ultadanga, Milan Mela and Hastings. The potatoes will be sold in packets of 500 g to 5 kg. Customers would be able to buy a maximum of 5 kg at a time.

This was decided at a meeting held at Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Friday. It may be mentioned here that last year, similar lorries were placed in front of the Writers' Buildings for selling potatoes at government rate.

Potatoes at government fixed rates will also be available at 26 KMC-run markets of Ultadanga, VIP market, Hatibagan, Koley, Sovabazar, Entally, Park Circus, Lake Market, Haltu and Anandapalit as well as all the fair price vegetable shops located in Hastings, Milan Mela, Joka, Tollygunge, Posta, Kankurgachi, Behala and Sakherbazar.

Officials of KMC said that the Enforcement Directorate of the Corporation and Kolkata Police have been asked to intensify vigil to ensure that potatoes are sold at the government fixed rates.
