Permanent exhibition at Nivedita Centre in Darjeeling
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has allocated an amount of Rs 1 crore for setting up a permanent exhibition on the life, works and teachings of Sister Nivedita at the Ramakrishna Mission Nivedita Educational and Cultural Centre (RKMNECC) in Darjeeling. This was recently announced by the head of the centre.
2018 is the 150th birth anniversary year of the famous Irish disciple of Swami Vivekananda, who was also a well-known educationist, social reformer and author.
The Nivedita Centre, as the place is popularly known as, is located at Roy Villa on Lebong Cart Road, where Sister Nivedita stayed for some time and where she died too, on October 13, 1911. Part of the allocation of Rs 1 crore is for the maintenance of the room where Sister Nivedita breathed her last.
According to the head of the Nivedita Centre, the permanent exhibition will be interactive through audio-visual media and touchscreen presentations. There will be models as well. There will be some unpublished letters of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose and Sister Christine (a disciple of Swami Vivekananda). Some old books will also be on display along with a typewriter, a wall clock, a radio and a table lamp of that era.
On July 10, 2013, the State Government had handed over Roy Villa to Ramakrishna Mission.
