One-Time Traffic Fine Settlement Scheme proves to be big success
As a one-time scheme, from December 1, the Kolkata Police has started a process of enabling people to pay off their traffic violation fines at a discount.
The One-Time Traffic Fine Settlement Scheme, as it is called, has met with unprecedented success. According to Kolkata Police officials, in the 19 days till December 19, approximately Rs 10.5 crore has been collected, settling around 28 lakhs cases.
Every day, a substantial amount is being collected from the 26 counters opened by 25 traffic guards and Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar.
The scheme has been divided into two phases. The first phase will continue till January 14, 2019 while the second phase will take place from January 15 to February 13.
During the first phase, people will have to pay 35 per cent of the total dues while during the second phase, 50 per cent would have to be paid.
