MV Sikshashree: Howrah to Millennium Park at only Rs 6
The Bengal Government has just made river journeys cheaper – from Howrah to Millennium Park one can travel at just Rs 6.
The 400 passenger-capacity vessel set sail on its first journey on Friday, June 22. The vessel might travel on other routes too. It is being operated by the State Transport Department.
The Transport Minister, who was present along with other officials on the inaugural journey, while announcing various aspects of the vessel, also said that it can be hired for large functions, provided scheduled trips are not affected. In the comings days, the vessel would be turned into an air-conditioned one.
The three-storey vessel, built at a cost of Rs 1.97 crore, can hold 450 people on the lower deck, 125 on the middle deck and 25 on the upper deck.
