Ms. Mamata Banerjee wins at Bhowanipore, Trinamool captures Basirhat (North) seat, Trinamool has 185 seats in Assembly

Paschimbanga Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee registered a massive victory by getting 54,213 votes, registering a win of 77.46 percent.  According to statistics there is an increase of 12.69 percent of votes in Bhowanipore Assembly constituency as compared to previous elections. A total of 73, 635 votes were polled in favor of Ms. Banerjee.  

Around 45 %  of the votes were polled on the Sunday by-election.

The sentiments were high since early morning especially in the Kalighat area where she resides, Trinamool supporters were seen thronging the streets with party flags and shouting `Maa-Mati-Manush zindabad, didi zindabad` (hail Maa-Mati-Manush, hail didi). Everybody seems bask in a festive mood as they were confident that their Didi would win the Bhowanipore constituency. 

Ms. Banerjee said that the Ma Mati Manush amar alankar, after the results were declared.

On the other hand, Trinamoll Congress candidate ATM Abdullah has won the Basirhat (North) Assembly constituency by-election by a margin of 30,941 votes. By-elections were also held Basirhat (North) where the seat fell vacant after the death of sitting MLA in that constituency. Trinamool has wrested this seat from CPI(M).

Trinamool congress has now a strength of 185 in the Paschimbanga Assembly.
